Senior year is one of the most exciting seasons in a person's life.
This is the main reason for you to have the best pictures! You will be thankful you captured these images and that you were able to make time stand still even if for a brief moment.
But what do you do? What do you wear? What do you do with your hair?
As part of being a Senior with me I will help you through the process. I love helping you choose outfits and plan out your hair and make-up. In the meantime, this blog post will give you some ideas on what to wear.
The more outfits you bring to your photoshoot, the more options and styling flexibility you’ll have within your session. But remember, changing outfits takes time from your session so the biggest tip for you is that you make sure your outfits are easily changeable- think layers!
You’ll want a minimum of 3 head-to-toe looks:
Parent Pleaser - This is the one you know they’ll love showing off for years to come. Think a crisp shirt and great jeans, with nice shoes and classic accessories for a timeless look.
Senior's Choice - What’s the most “you” thing you do? Bring along your musical instrument, a paint palette or another object that shows off your most important personal interest.
Activities - From sports to chess club, your activities make up a big part of your high school experience. Bring a team jersey, dance line costume or favorite debate duds to commemorate your achievements.
Dress It Up - Girls: Wear a dress or a skirt and make yourself as glamorous as you want! There's nothing more stunning than a long, flowy dress. Boys: Wear a suit, layer it with a t-shit if you want and wear slacks. This look will make you look handsome You can’t go wrong with a dress shirt, slacks, and a blazer.
Remember: there’s no such thing as “too dressed up” when it comes to your senior session, so don’t be afraid to have some fun! If you don’t want to spend a ton of money adding a new permanent piece to your wardrobe, a lot of my clients love Rent the Runway for their portrait photos because you don’t have to spend a lot to feel like a million bucks. Plus, you can send the outfits back when the session is over! Some of my clients love having an excuse to go shopping and purchase a new permanent piece (or two!) for their wardrobe –– and that’s okay, too! Whatever works for you!
Lastly, shoes! Closed-toed heels, in particular, look great on camera because they carry out the line of your leg all the way down to your toe. Ladies, you can never go wrong with a pair of neutral pumps! Gentlemen, closed-toed shoes is the most sophisticated and masculine look for a man. Also, if you decide to do something true to you like tennis shoes or Converse, I encourage you to do so too.
So that is it! My best tips for what to wear to your senior photoshoot. I do provide a style guide with more tips and guidance through the process. After all, we are in this together.
Can't wait to see what you bring!
